Meridian Precinct

Welcome to the Meridian Precinct

Meridian Precinct

The Meridian Precinct is The Heavens' middle island — divided into four wards by function and encircled by robust outer walls. North Ward is the commercial core: shops, services, taverns. East Ward is residential and religious, quieter and more settled. South Ward runs the bazaar market and shipping docks. West Ward holds the Colossus Vortex stadium and its supporting entertainment district. A central plateau rises above the wards; a church and a defensive fort sit at the top, with a handful of stately mansions below them.

Prices here sit between Aurum Heights and Labora Quarters — working professional to comfortable middle-class. The Precinct is where the majority of The Heavens' working citizens live, shop, and spend their leisure time.

North Ward

North Ward

The North Ward is the Precinct's commercial district. Shops and services line the streets in steady density; merchants display wares with care and there is genuine competition for customers. The streets feel like a mid-sized town's market center — lively but navigable, busy but not chaotic. Prices are moderate, the selection is better than Labora, and the atmosphere is professional without being pretentious.

East Ward

East Ward

The East Ward is the Meridian Precinct's quiet counterpoint to its own bustle. Neatly arranged streets wind through residential blocks, flanked by modest houses, small gardens, and the occasional religious shrine. Families, students, and working professionals of the middle class find homes here. The melodious sounds of hymns from the Oshala prayer house and the Irna's Seven chapel mark the hours. Several small creative and service establishments cluster along Fauna Furlong and Quietside Lane, catering to the ward's resident population rather than the commercial traffic of the North and South.

South Ward

South Ward

The South Ward is where goods arrive. The bazaar market along Market Road is the most colorful and chaotic section of the Meridian Precinct — vendors from every corner of Dort display wares ranging from exotic spices and textiles to rare artifacts sourced from the depths of the Undercity below. The atmosphere is animated, loud, and perpetually negotiating. At the ward's southern edge, the shipping docks receive goods from the Heaven's Isles supply settlements, the cargo off-loaded by Stoneheart Quarry workers and distributed by Ironhook-adjacent dock gangs who take their percentage so quietly and consistently that most merchants consider it simply a cost of doing business.

West Ward

West Ward

The West Ward runs on entertainment. The Colossus Vortex stadium anchors the ward; around it, inns, taverns, and shops that sell adventure gear and novelties serve fight-night crowds and day-trip visitors from other islands. Outside of match days the ward is noticeably quieter — a few shops do steady trade, but the energy concentrates around event schedules.

Plateaus

Plateaus

Atop the plateau, a well-established church serves as the ward's spiritual anchor — beautiful architecture, surrounding gardens maintained for quiet reflection. Below it, a large fort and grand castle house the Precinct's governing body and serve as the defensive command post for the island. A few stately mansions at the plateau's base offer elevated views to their wealthier residents.

Buildings

North Ward

Celestial Crust

Celestial CrustThalia Sweetbloom (smaling, honey-colored hair, rosy complexion) runs this bakery on a corner of Rosemary Lane with obvious love for the craft. The exterior is cream-colored with flowering windowboxes; inside, the smell of fresh bread and a hint of active baking magic announces the shop before the sign does. A large stone hearth dominates one wall; shelves behind the counter hold the day's output.

Thalia insists on the best ingredients and applies a genuine creative touch to every piece. Three specialty items have become signature items: Starlight Scones (soft, vanilla and lavender, powdered sugar that sparkles in light), Ethereal Eclairs (cream filling that subtly shifts flavor with each bite), and Astral Apple Pies (flaky crust; when cut, a warm golden light escapes and the scent is said to evoke cherished memories).

Staff: Milo Greenhill (smaling apprentice, enthusiastic learner), Eliana Moonwhisper (elf, manages the counter with precision and warmth), Rollo Stonefoot (dwarf, handles supply and logistics with unexpected dedication to delicate pastry work).

Macaroy's

Macaroy'sBalgor Macaroy (dwarf, thick red beard braided with his clan symbol, deep-set blue eyes, genuine warmth and authority in equal measure) runs this two-story tavern at the center of Macaroy's Road. A seasoned brewmaster, Balgor personally welcomes guests and recommends his current ales.

The building is dwarven craftsmanship throughout — cobblestones inlaid with quartz, carved oak pillars, a U-shaped mahogany bar, stone floors worn smooth by years of foot traffic. A large hearth keeps the space warm; walls are covered with trophies, paintings, and artifacts from Balgor's past. The ales are genuinely excellent.

Staff: Lara Softwind (half-elf barmaid, quick wit, remembers every patron's preferred drink), Grobnar Ironfist (dwarven bouncer and Balgor's old comrade, intimidating bearing, soft spot for regulars), Thelban Swiftfoot (smaling server, supernaturally capable of carrying full platters through crowd), Morwen Evenstar (elven bard, reserved manner, songs that carry real emotional depth).

Relic Restorations

Relic RestorationsFringi Aundirson (tinker gnome, wiry, nimble-fingered, always in the middle of a restoration project) runs this repair and restoration shop in the North Ward. The interior smells of seasoned wood and metal; workbenches are covered in tools both ordinary and magical; shelves display finished restoration pieces as examples of what the shop does.

Fringi and his three apprentices — Jemma Brightgears (gnome, intricate metalwork), Elara Swiftwhisper (elf, woodcraft detail), Roderick Stonewall (dwarf, structural restoration) — handle the full process: assessment, restoration, and finishing. Customers are welcomed to watch work in progress and walk through the restoration plan for their piece. The shop also sells finished restored items: small trinkets to larger furniture, each piece with a documented history.

Sells: restoration and repair services for wood and metal artifacts, finished restored items. For GMs: Fringi has seen more unusual and potentially significant objects pass through the shop than almost anyone in the Precinct. He notices things and, while discreet, will mention if a piece seems notable.

Description of The Ticking Aeon: Tucked away in a quieter district of The Heavens, The Ticking Aeon is a sight to behold. The exterior of the shop resembles a giant clock, with a multitude of gears and cogs artfully embedded into the walls and the front door designed to look like an enormous pendulum. Upon stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a soft, rhythmic tick-tock, the combined symphony of countless timepieces.

Rows of shelves hold an array of clocks, from grand floor-standing models to small, intricate pocket watches. Each piece is a work of art, meticulously crafted and boasting an array of styles that cater to all tastes, from the traditional to the modern, the ornate to the minimalist.

Using a blend of magic and traditional clockmaking techniques, Rodolfo creates unique timepieces that not only keep perfect time but can also offer various enchantments, such as clocks that can send reminders or alarms directly to their owner's mind, timepieces that can briefly slow or hasten the flow of time in their vicinity, or even a clock that can replay the sounds it heard at a specific time. These special creations are highly sought after and make The Ticking Aeon a destination for both locals and visitors.

Easels with works in various stages of completion are scattered around the space, and completed paintings adorn the walls.

The shop is divided into sections. The front is dedicated to displaying Lira's art for sale, ranging from stunning landscapes and intricate portraits to abstract pieces that provoke thought and emotion. The back of the shop is Lira's personal studio, where she creates her works of art. This area is often left open for patrons to watch her at work, a sight that in itself feels like performance art. There's something hypnotic about watching her move, her brush dancing across the canvas as she brings her visions to life.

Special Offerings: The Ephemeral Palette offers more than just traditional art. Lira has mastered the art of infusing her paintings with subtle magic. She can create works that move and change, mimicking the passing of time or varying with the viewer's mood. These "living paintings" are highly prized and sought after. She also offers art lessons to those interested in learning, spreading her love for art to others in The Heavens.

Owner: Mariposa "Mah-ri-po-sa" Zamora, a learned and graceful Half-elf from Antaea.

Description of Mariposa Zamora: Mariposa carries herself with an air of quiet dignity and authority. She is a lover of books and people alike, a combination that led to the creation of The Quill & Rose.

Description of The Quill & Rose: Situated on one of The Heavens' quieter streets, The Quill & Rose appears to be a library from the outside, its stone facade bearing carved motifs of quills and roses. Inside, however, the establishment offers more than knowledge in written form. Rows of shelves filled with books of all subjects, sizes, and languages make up the ground floor, creating an atmosphere of calm and intellect.

The upstairs area, accessible through a hidden staircase behind one of the shelves, is where the courtesans entertain their clients. This area is softly lit, with plush furnishings, secluded alcoves, and private rooms.

The Courtesans: The courtesans at The Quill & Rose are skilled in the art of conversation and are well-versed in many subjects, from politics and history to magic and arcane studies. They also offer discreet "book delivery" services to their patrons, where a courtesan will bring a selected book to a patron's home and stay to discuss it.

Unique Feature: Each courtesan at The Quill & Rose has a particular subject of expertise, and patrons can choose who they spend time with based on their intellectual interests. West Ward

The Colossus Vortex

Colossus VortexTaelis Silverdawn (aged High Elf, silver hair, emerald eyes, former mage-knight) owns and manages the Colossus Vortex — The Heavens' premier sports stadium in the West Ward. A former competitor himself, Taelis believes sport builds unity across species lines, and is often found in the crowd during events rather than in a private box.

The stadium is built from enchanted adamantite that shimmers in sunlight. Seating rises steeply above a central field that magically adjusts in size and shape for different sports. Protective magical shields keep the crowd safe without obstructing sightlines; enchanted illusions replay significant moments for sections that couldn't see. Capacity is in the tens of thousands.

The Skyshard Drakes — a mixed-race team, Drakin to Goliath — are the crowd favorite, known for aggressive, coordinated play with magical enhancement for dramatic effect. Notable individual athletes: Jora Ironhide (Goliath, raw power and strength competitions), Erevan Quickshadow (elf, speed and agility events, appears to teleport across the field), Torunn Flameheart (Drakin sorcerer, combines magic and physical sport for spectacular results).

For GMs: The Colossus Vortex fills the district on event days. The betting operations around the stadium are extensive and only partially above-board; the West Ward's underbelly is most accessible on fight nights when the crowd provides cover.
