Briar's Birdpost (Ritual)

**Briar's Birdpost (Ritual)**

2nd-level conjuration (ritual)

  • Casting Time: 10 minutes (1 hour if cast as a ritual)
  • Range: 10 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (a feather and a piece of parchment with the message)
  • Duration: Up to 2 days
  • Classes: Wizard, Bard, Druid

When you cast Briar's Birdpost, you conjure a spirit in the form of a bird, which delivers a written letter to a person whose name and general location you know. The spirit bird, resembling a common species such as a sparrow or pigeon, carries the letter in its beak and travels at a normal bird's speed, without the need for rest or sustenance.

Upon reaching the recipient, the bird will wait for up to a day to receive a reply, which it will then deliver back to you, the caster. The bird can be dismissed at any time by the recipient or the caster. If a reply is not given within a day, the bird returns to you empty-beaked.

The spell does not provide any special protection for the message, and the bird can be intercepted like any ordinary bird.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the duration extends by 1 day for each slot level above 2nd.

Lore:

Briar's Birdpost was created by Briar Windwhistle, a druid known for her affinity with birds and her desire to connect people across distances. Briar often found herself in remote locations, far from her loved ones, and sought a way to communicate with them reliably.

Combining her magical knowledge with her understanding of avian behavior, Briar crafted this spell to mimic the natural abilities of birds for message delivery. Her creation became popular among those who lived far apart or in secluded areas, allowing them to maintain connections despite the distance.

Briar's Birdpost is a testament to Briar's ingenuity and her belief in the importance of communication and connection, even across great distances. The spell remains a favorite among travelers, explorers, and those who seek a simple yet effective means of distant communication.
