1st-level enchantment
You target one child of your own who is within range and not yet in the throes of adolescence. The child must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for the duration. While charmed in this way, the child regards you with a temporary sense of dutiful obedience and will carry out one simple, non-harmful command you give. Commands that could directly or indirectly lead to harm are automatically disregarded.
If the child is forced to act in a way that would break their natural character or principles, they may make another Wisdom saving throw to end the effect early.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can target an additional child for each slot level above 1st.
Lore:
Martha's Mother Minder was created by the witch Martha Gildentree, who was both a powerful spellcaster and the single mother of a particularly unruly son named Hobb. As Hobb approached his tween years, his mischievous nature proved too much for the busy Martha, who was often occupied with her magical research. She sought a non-harmful means to ensure Hobb's safety and compliance, particularly when she was engrossed in experiments that could turn perilous if disturbed.
Martha designed this spell not out of a desire for control but out of a protective instinct, ensuring that Hobb would not wander into danger while she was otherwise indisposed. The spell became a topic of some ethical debate in magical circles but was ultimately accepted due to its harmless nature and the safeguard against harmful commands. However, Martha's success in this spell did not prevent Hobb from growing into a rebellious teenager, at which point the spell lost its efficacy, much to Martha's chagrin.
Over time, Martha's Mother Minder found its way into the spellbooks of many parent-mages who sometimes found themselves needing a moment of peace or a guarantee of safety for their curious offspring.
