Festival Calendar
Festival Calendar
Dort keeps the Irna calendar: twelve months, four seasons, and a year that begins in winter on Ixan 1. See the Calendar of Dort for the months and their weather.
This page gathers every holy day from the gods of Dort and the festivals kept by towns and cities across the lands. Each entry links to the page that describes it in full.
Festivals are dated three ways:
- Fixed festivals fall on the same day every year, usually one of the turning points below.
- Moon festivals follow the lunar cycle and move from year to year. The moon runs a cycle of about 29½ days, so these drift against the calendar; they are listed under the month in which they usually fall.
- Occasional observances are called when something happens: a storm, an eclipse, a disaster, a new road.
Weekly observances use the seven days of the week, Solday through Caelday.
The Turning Points of the Year
| Day | Date |
|---|---|
| New Year's Day | Ixan 1 |
| Winter solstice (Midwinter, the longest night) | Lunuary 17 |
| First day of spring | Brassica 1 |

| Summer solstice (Midsummer, the longest day) | Julus 17 |
| First day of autumn | Thulgust 1 |

Each solstice and equinox falls in the middle of its season's primary month. The eve of a festival is the day before it; Midwinter's Eve is Lunuary 16 and Midsummer's Eve is Julus 16.
